I’ve been using the public Google DNS servers 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 for several years now. It was once said that using these DNS servers would result in a noticeable speed increase when compared with the DNS servers that your internet provider makes you use. I started using the Google servers and the addresses immediately got stuck in my head, so I haven’t stopped using them since. Until today, that is…I’ve…

I have Ubuntu16.04 servers running, and I want to run database engines like MariaDB on it. Normally I would just type sudo apt install mariadb-server and the database system would be up and running in under two minutes. Ubuntu16.04 will install version 10.0 by default, but I want to install a different version. At the very least, 10.1. Why 10.1 you might ask? Well because 10.1 was the first release…

Take a look at the gaming room of this guy. He is actually one of the people who used to work for Sierra back in the 90s. Or in other words, the glory days of gaming. I’m so jealous of this guy’s collection. I also want this also! I NEED THIS!! I REALLY NEED THIS BECAUSE OF REASONS!! I hate this guy so much right now. Not really, of course,…

Today I received an e-mail from Blizzard informing me that I have been selected to participate in the alpha test version for the upcoming expansion Battle for Azeroth. I hope this means that I will automatically also get access to the beta version that will be released soon. I’m not going to try the alpha version because well… it’s alpha. I’m not even sure if I will be trying the…

I was watching the results of yesterday’s voting elections and found out that there’s a local political party in Amsterdam called Ubuntu so I was like WTF!?

I like to keep a monitoring eye on my servers, as most people who manage servers do. I have one central server that monitors the others. I choose to use a central server, so the other ones don’t have to use any extra resources. But now I found a tool that can be run on every Linux based server with SNMP, that barely uses any resources. And it shows a…

Just found an awesome script online that I tested today and it works great. It’s a script that allows you to create an ISO for an unattended installation for Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS. Just made myself one of those ISO’s, and I’m going to try to see if I can implement it in my PXE environment. If not, I can always place it on a USB flash drive and boot from…

From Wiki: The IBM 1401 is a variable word length decimal computer that was announced by IBM on October 5, 1959. The first member of the highly successful IBM 1400 series, it was aimed at replacing unit record equipment for processing data stored on punched cards and at providing peripheral services for larger computers. The 1401 is considered to be the Model-T Ford of the computer industry, because it was…

Today was a good day for me in the World of Warcraft. I got my achievement Ahead of the Curve: Argus the Unmaker by killing Argus in Antorus on Heroic difficulty. That means I also received the awesome mount that goes perfect with my transmog. Many thanks to Laurens and the people in his guild who made this possible by boosting me. So that’s one thing to cross off my…

Many cloud storage services give you the option to mount your online storage as an extra drive on your operating system. This can be done really easy on any operating system that runs a desktop environment. But I wanted to add my storage as a mounted drive on Ubuntu Server, and it does not use a desktop environment, so I use WinSCP and Putty to administrate my server.I did some research…

I don’t often think about playing any other game than World of Warcraft, but when I do, it’s about Sea of Thieves. After watching the video below, I realized it might be a lot of fun and really entertaining to play with some friends, and it comes pretty close to how me and my friends entertain ourselves in the world, of warcraft. One minor issue is that I don’t have…

When I was a kid, a brand-new invention called the CD player entered our lives. Along with it came, naturally, CD’s themselves. I was lucky enough that my parents decided to buy one of these CD players early on, while the music industry was still working very hard to produce these magic, shiny discs with digitalized audio. I remember the exact moment when I was with my dad at the…
